Documentation Policy

Last updated: September 1, 2026

GearPlug answers questions about music equipment using the manufacturer's own product documentation. This page explains where that documentation comes from, how it is used, and how any manufacturer can have theirs corrected or removed. The short version: if you make the gear and you want your documentation out, one email removes it.

Where documentation comes from

  • Manufacturer-published sources only. We index documentation that manufacturers publish publicly on their own websites and download portals, or that a retail partner is authorized to use for the products in its catalogue.
  • We honor robots.txt and access controls everywhere. Sites that decline automated access are not crawled, full stop.
  • No scraped aggregators. We do not take documents from manual-hosting aggregator sites, and we record the source of every document we hold.

How documentation is used

  • The assistant answers a customer's question with short excerpts from the relevant manual, cited by page. It exists to help people choose, set up and use the manufacturer's products at the point of sale.
  • We do not republish manuals, offer them for download, or sell access to them. Retailers pay for the assistant and its integration — never for documentation.
  • Answers only ever cite a document we actually hold and retrieved for that question. When we don't know, the assistant says so.

For manufacturers

Want your documentation removed, corrected, or updated?

Email jamesianoliver@gmail.com from a company address with the brand name and, if it's about specific documents, which ones. No form, no proof-of-copyright ritual for a request from the manufacturer's own domain.

  • Removal requests are honored within 5 business days, and the brand is added to our do-not-index list so it stays out.
  • Corrections — a newer revision, a withdrawn document — are applied the same way. We would rather index the manual you want customers to see.
  • Partnership — if you'd like your documentation represented properly, or the assistant on your own product pages, we'd genuinely like to talk. Better pre-sale answers sell your gear and cut your support load.

For rights holders generally

If you believe content we hold infringes rights you own and you are not the manufacturer, email the same address with enough detail to identify the material and your claim to it. We review every such request and remove content whose provenance we cannot stand behind.
